Doug WallsStudent Pastor
Born and raised the son of an Assemblies of God minister, Pastor Doug is very proud and thankful for his spiritual heritage. Though he comes from a long line of ministers, he has never had a desire to “ride the coattails” of his family members. He knew he would have to hear from God for himself—and he did. At the age of fifteen, he felt God calling him to serve the body of Christ; however, he pursued many opportunities outside the church world before returning to his “calling.”
Pastor Doug received formal training in the fields of media and creative arts and has worked professionally in both radio and television. In fact, he held full-time positions as a radio talk show host and disc jockey. He also served as a play-by-play announcer and color commentator for television and radio sporting events. Because he has a vocal gift, Pastor Doug has performed in secular venues, as well as the church setting. Throughout college, he was a member of an NCAA Division I golf team. His golf career would eventually open the door to an opportunity to become head coach for both men’s and women’s collegiate golf teams.
Eventually God called Pastor Doug back to his “roots” and to full-time ministry. Now his strong desire is to use all of his abilities for the glory of God—not for personal gain. He believes his passion for media and the arts will be a tool that can be used to impact today’s media-driven student culture for the kingdom of God. He has already served in various ministry roles (e.g., worship director, outreach coordinator, deacon, associate youth pastor, and senior youth pastor). Interestingly enough, Pastor Doug served as a full-time youth pastor in the United Methodist denomination for three years. He says that it was “a privilege and an honor to serve a wonderful group of students and a church he could call home.”
Pastor Doug is now seeking ordination with the Assemblies of God, and (along with his beautiful wife, Brandy) his passion is to creatively reach today’s students with the message of Jesus Christ. He believes students are looking for a message of truth in a world full of untruth. He strongly believes that “the message of the Gospel can give students power to live in their world, power to love their world, and power to change their world.”br />
